BIOGRAPHY

Sarah Lamphere is a multimedia and textile artist currently working from the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina. Sarah received their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University-Stanislaus where they had formerly practiced art in the East Bay area. Originally from Southeast Iowa, Sarah's art is influenced by their upbringing in the rural Midwest as well as aspiring to deconstruct existing in an environment that overlaps the seen and seeing through performances of meditative ritualistic actions and craft processes - while also revering human limitations, mortality, and the gratuitous act of sacrifice that brings about an intimacy to life that is out of place in the everyday world of work. For this reflection to occur, Sarah immerses themself in both the task and their environment when hand-spinning coiling lengths of yarn, mending, and weaving to construct large-scale cowhide/textile installations that elicit sensory experiences.

Sarah's art has been displayed in solo and group exhibitions around the nation, including Under My Skin (Two-Artist Exhibition) at An.ä.log Gallery in San Fransisco, California, HATCH Summer Art Expression Festival at HATCH Workshop in Stockton, California, Mended Hides (Solo Exhibition) at Stan State Art Space Gallery in Turlock, California, The Annual Indian Hills Community College Student Art Exhibit at Ottumwa, Iowa, and The Albia Restoration Days Art Show at Albia, Iowa, along with many more. They've been awarded for exceptional art and school performance as a winning artist in the Stan State Juried Student Art Exhibition, becoming a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Academy Honors Program, and nominated for the ISC Outstanding Student Award - in addition to receiving honorary acknowledgments and grants from California State University-Stanislaus, Central College, Indian Hills Community College, the Wapello Art Club, and the Indian Hills Community College Trustee Award.
